Cant believe there is so much to write about his kindy life.
One day, I checked his message book and the teacher has written a “love note” to me. Somehow, I find it hard to accept eventhough I am a very positive person. Maybe when people criticize comment feedback about our loved ones, we get sentitive?
To put it nicely, the note says “Philip’s hand writing needs some improvement. Please guide him”
To me, whether the note is written positively or bluntly, it simply means, BUCK UP ON THE HARDWRITING.
and so, I have to do detective work again and check.
Malay (writing alphabets)
When I saw the alphabet writing, Yes, agree its UGLY but the strokes were accurate. So teacher cant complain right?
Chinese – NOW. This is where the root cause is. He cannot write the strokes for chinese properly. sighz. More or less he gets the strokes right..but somehow “senget” for chinese words does not count! Writing chinese is all about accuracy.
I spoke to the teacher and she saids, he is not focus. To me, more practice seems like it?!!!
Anyway, I have invested “something” and will blog about it later. Hopefully this thing will NOT be a white elephant and will be a useful tool for him =p

I find that nowadays even Kindy has got high expectation for the kids ah… can’t remember myself getting any complain from school despite I wrote awfully too… I guess handwriting is more of practice..
Yes as parent we can only do so much of guiding, but isn’t it the teacher’s job to coach a child to write properly? That’s what they are paid for mah… My William was taught to hold the pencil, write and trace at school. Not me.
Kids write in many different ways… I guess practise does make perfect!
Let him practise writing with your guidance, then give him a reward/incentive, it works for Jayden
Er…. I think the alphabets are okay… chinese writing maybe he really just need a little practice… patience patience..
i just realize Philip and my both boys share the same middle name(chinese name).
Last year, Chloe’s writing was very, very BAD too. This year, although I see a big improvement, her teacher still complains and ask me to let her practice writing more (her kindy doesn’t give writing homework). Her teacher tells me the same thing quite often and sometimes I do feel offended too because after all, she did improve… so why set such a high standard and be so fussy? Sigh…
He is only 5 years old right? You still have next year to write alphabets again.
Oh dear! To compare Philip’s ABC to Ethan’s, I think Ethan’s writing is way much worse! I guess I never bothered with his handwriting.. goodness I dare not even look at Ethan’s chinese characters.
I like Philip’s ‘tadpole’ (the large dot on the letter ‘I’)
Do share what is that that you’ve invested ^_^
I always see bryan suffering at night .. when the father is so strict with his mandarin writing. The father will rub off immediately the word bryan has just written and ask him to re-write. Rub & write, rub & write until page also koyak! And of course la, like world war at home too – shouting by the father & crying by the son. Heart a bit pain but indeed, there is some improvement ….. although im not sure method of teaching is correct or not
hahaha same here, my girl handwriting is so messy and teruk like cakar ayam when she is 5yo. But trust me need more practice, not to force but keep remind him to write nicely instead of try to write fast just to finish fast. Sit with him and guide him on every words, that is what I do with my girl. Phew luckily at 6yo now her writing get better, sometime if she put in the heart to write she even can get stars. Keep in on Rachel.
have u tried letter him use a triangle pencil? It helps quite a bit. He’s still young, will get there. Vyktore at 6 also writes like Philip, now that’s more worrying to me
With Chn writing, it’s all abt practice. Wat do the teacher expect from a 4.5 yo? Some older kids’ Chn writing r also like that lah. Hope ur “tool” will help. Do share wat it is ya.
nowadays, it is very pressurize for a young kids attending kindy ya. Teacher sets high expectation. I’m sure his writing will improve soon…….hang on there.
At first I saw his malay hand writting and really not bad leh as compare to my Angel’s and P is only 4+. Then when I saw P’s chinese and I can really related to it since Angel’s chinese is almost like P’s writing too, senget but ‘all senget the same style’ too ….. so making it not that obvious??? (maybe that’s the reason I haven’t receive any complaint from her teacher yet.)
can’t wait to see what have you invested
But sometimes hor, even I myself don’t know how to write those chinese strokes correctly wor … headache oh.
I would say, most boys’ handwriting are like cakar ayam … haiz … I will have headache next time …
Phillip’s handwriting is not that bad … I suppose he needs some practice …
Hey….C writes like that too for chinese. But for malay/english….he has to write properly as well else the teacher will erase it all off and he will have to do it again.
I guess no choice really have to practice and practice and practice. Does P like colouring? That helps build strength.
